Exercise 4 – Question 6

May I take the honeydew?

No, _____   Yes, _____

Answer: No, you may not   Yes, you may

Answer in the book: No, you should not   Yes, you may

In this question, both answers should be correct. It actually depends on how the speaker used the sentences with its tone and then it can be differentiated.

However in this question, it should be answered back with the modal used. In this case, ‘may’ was used. Therefore, I answered ‘may’ and ‘may not’ back into the answers.

Note:

Should – Express duty

May – Express permission
